What keratin smoothing involves
A keratin smoothing treatment coats the hair shaft with a protein solution that's then sealed in with heat. The result isn't poker-straight hair — it's your own texture with the frizz taken out and the volume calmed, so a blow-dry that used to take forty minutes takes fifteen and actually survives humidity.
It suits thick, coarse, or naturally frizzy hair best, and the difference is most dramatic on hair that currently fights back. Fine hair can be treated too, but the effect is subtler and worth discussing first — if your hair is already easy to manage, you may not get $220 of value from it.
It's safe over color-treated hair, including balayage and highlights. If you're doing both, we color first and smooth afterwards, ideally in the same visit or within a couple of weeks. Doing it the other way round means the smoothing barrier interferes with how the color takes.
The effect wears off gradually rather than growing out in a line, typically over three to four months depending on how often you wash. There's no awkward demarcation point and no obligation to keep repeating it.

- Sulphate-free shampoo from now on — sulphates dissolve the treatment and will cut its life short.
- Avoid salt water and chlorinated pools where you can; both strip it quickly.
- No tight ponytails, clips, or tucking behind the ears for the first 48 hours — they can set a crease.
- Air-drying is fine and looks good, which is rather the point.
- Expect 3–4 months, shorter if you wash daily.

Three to four months for most people. Washing frequency is the main variable — daily washing with the wrong shampoo can cut it to six weeks, while washing two or three times a week with sulphate-free product gets you the full four months.
No, and that's deliberate. It removes frizz and reduces volume while keeping your natural texture and movement. If you want genuinely poker-straight hair you're thinking of a chemical relaxer, which is a different and much more permanent service.
